David Bodecott Consulting
Established 1981

An independent consultancy in International Oil & Gas Exploration and Evaluation, specialising in Petroleum Geology and Exploration Geophysics, especially seismic interpretation.

On August 1st, 2007 we celebrated 26 years successful consulting for clients world-wide, and 33 years in the oil business.

Principal Partner: David Bodecott: 55 years young.

Recent Activities: April, 2008 update.

On a personal note, please check out this site, http://www.blencathra.net if you love the Lake District mountains - the nation's back yard, the nation's breathing space.

ROCKHOPPER EXPLORATION

Dave Bodecott has recently taken additional responsibilities with Rockhopper with appointment as Exploration Director and board member. The workload will vary depending on activity. Other consulting activities will take up the remaining available time.

We form an integral part of the Rockhopper team. A strong position has been built in the shallow water, petroliferous North Falkland Basin and activity continues with recently completed 2D seismic, 3D seismic and a successful CSEM survey. The 3D seismic is currently being interpreted.

Details are available on the Rockhopper website.

FAROE PETROLEUM

During 2006, we were heavily involved with support for Faroe Petroleum in their operated licences and UK 24th Round evaluations and applications. This resulted in successful 24th Round awards announced recently. We continue to support their NW Europe activities.

PROJECT WORK

Projects continue on an independent basis, free from agencies, normally direct to clients on an "on demand", individual project basis.

We retain accommodation/office space in Aberdeen, and within two hours drive of our main base we have access to six international airports.

Kingdom software and workstations are available at main base and in Aberdeen. Draughting services are always available through an associate company.

OUR ORIGINS
Background experience has been exceptionally varied. This contributes to an enlightened approach to seismic interpretation where the full integration of all geological information is genuinely put into perspective.

1. Full Honours Geology degree, with Petroleum Geology specialisation at M.Sc. level.
2. Early well site experience from age 21 in the Scottish North Sea, West Africa, Netherlands, Norway and Ireland.
3. Extensive experience of well sitting on exploration wells, directional development wells and deep water wells: jackups, floaters and jacket wells.
4. Caught and described numerous cores, witnessed numerous logging jobs.
5. Conducted log analysis on many wells. Sat gas and oil discoveries, light oil, heavy oil, condensate, wet gas, dry gas, fresh formation waters, saline waters, porous sands, tight shaly sands, fractured sands, carbonate reservoirs, highly organic source rock sequences.
6. Witnessed well tests, fraccing, production tests, production logging.
7. Sat the Gulf 49/9-2 discovery well in the Celtic Sea (ca. 10,000 BOPD from three zones).
8. Sat the Gulf 35/8-1 gas discovery offshore Bergen, Norway. This well blew out and almost became a disaster, saved by the wind that blew the gas cloud away from the rig. 5 cm. of condensate left floating on the deck.
9. Extensive regional geological evaluations mostly with Gulf Oil over South East Asia, Southern North Sea, West Africa, North Africa via stratigraphic, sedimentological, structural, facies and source rock modelling using all well and seismic data.

CONSULTING EXPERIENCE has involved application of the following skills:
1. Seismic Interpretation: Within the basic physical parameters and criteria that govern reflection seismology, this is an art - where geological vision and understanding dictate the quality of the interpretation derived. This has comprised 90% of all the 25 years consulting experience, both 2D and 3D.
2. Many structurally complex and poor data areas have been successfully mapped and prepared as attractive farm out packages, drilling prospects or acreage evaluations.
3. Many asset evaluations, technical audits and deal reviews have been completed. Try making a good deal without a believable map! It doesn't matter how commercially astute the deal maker is, if all the work is based on erroneous or poor quality mapping - it happens all the time - that's why oil companies do make bad deals. Of course luck is also involved. We all need it.
